Connor is my four year old great nephew who lives in Wilmington, N.C. His 'nana' is my younger sister, Janet, on whom I rely for my Connor stories, which she receives from her daughter, Linda. Unfortunately, I do not get to see Connor often, but through these stories, I can see his personality, relationships, his creativity; and thus, watch him grow up.

Already, he is so precious to me and he has taught me so many spiritual lessons. You see, Connor, has a very special relationship with God and he is not shy to talk about it.

His mom has been a single mom these past four years and has just recently remarried. During those financially disadvantaged years, money was tight to the place that food was sometimes scarce. During these times, Connor learned to walk by faith.

When he questioned his mommy, she always would say that God was watching over them and everything was going to be ok. Being still in the literal stages of life, he took her at her word and believed in God. He told everybody, including me, that God takes care of them.

When I was down for the wedding in May, he asked to have a talk with me about God. He wanted to be sure I knew how awesome God is, and if I knew how much God loved me.

Since then he has evangelized his Day Care class. His teacher is amazed by his concern for the children. He is always telling them that God loves them; he breaks up fights on the playground with, 'God wouldn't want you to do that, it's better to love one another'.

He asks her for 'her agenda' so he can be prepared to help. She says while the other children are singing 'This Old Man, or Three Blind Mice, Connor breaks out into a melody of church songs, his favorite being, Heaven is a Wonderful Place. Of course, I can't help but smile, these stories are so amusing.

But, one recently touched my heart so deeply.

Connor was quite ill with a recent viral infection with high fever that put him to bed for several days. The poor little fellow didn't feel well at all. When he did feel better, he bounded up out of bed with this exclamation, 'Mommy, I think God has healed me!' Linda told her mother that she had an inkling that Connor had spent some time praying to God on his own after that statement and the following conversation at breakfast. 'Mommy', he asked, 'Does God have a mommy and daddy'? 'Who does he talk to when he needs someone'? 'Connor, those are really good questions,' she said, hoping to avoid the really deep theological questions she had often asked herself. Then Connor replied quickly, 'I know that you can't be his mommy, because you're mine, but I am nobody's daddy. I can be his daddy and he can talk to me. I love him so much and I am going to tell him every day that I love him and I can be his daddy.' How sweet! How innocent! How profound!

I truly take's God's love for granted. Since hearing Connor's heart, I feel the urge to tell God every day that I love him and think he is so awesome! I want to have a special relationship with Him like Connor, one that is pure and innocent.

Thank you, Father, for being our daddy. When you walked in the cool of that first garden with Adam, what did you talk about? Please keep speaking to Connor's heart and please keep speaking to my heart. I love you.
